Tickets for the North American Bitcoin Conference Cannot be Bought With Cryptocurrencies any More

At one point, the North American Bitcoin Conference stopped accepting cryptocurrencies as a method of payment for the conference tickets. The reason for this decision is the congestion of the network.

The conference will be held in Miami on January 18th and 19th. The organizers published a statement on their website explaining the situation with the network overload and added the payments are being processed manually. All this led to the decision to stop accepting cryptocurrencies and only allow payments in fiat money for the tickets.

The organizers said: “Due to high traffic volume in our network and manual processing of the transactions, we have shut down the purchase of tickets for cryptocurrencies. We hope to find more unity in the community next year when it comes to scalability and global adoption. We wish and will always accept cryptocurrencies for our conferences, up to 14 days before the event. However, due to the fact that the entry of data on our platforms for cryptocurrency payments is performed manually, we have decided to close the sale of tickets for bitcoins at the last moment, because of the printing deadlines.”

The organizers added this kind of move is highly unlikely for their other events and pointed out the continuous fight of the bitcoin users against high transaction commissions and executing times.

The developers of Bitcoin Core announced a complete implementation of the SegWit bifurcation in May this year. Adding SegWit enables users to send coins with minimum costs and just a fraction of today’s costs per transaction.

Many users are already frustrated with the current situation in the Bitcoin network and are pressuring large companies to implement SegWit in their networks in order to lower the costs and waiting queues.
